The ACHC accreditation process is a comprehensive assessment of the pharmacy's operations, policies, procedures, ownership and patient care. It helps an organization look at its strengths and weaknesses. Once it has completed the process, it can strengthen the care the patients receive.

The process begins by documenting all of a pharmacy's typical functions. Patient care, record keeping, billing, financial data, training, hiring and education are all reviewed. Policies, procedures and supporting documentation are reviewed by ACHC. ACHC will then make suggestions based on their findings. Once the suggestions are implemented, an on-site survey occurs.

The on-site survey ensures that daily actions support the documentation given. The surveyor interacts with the pharmacy and gives advice when needed. The surveyor will score the pharmacy based on findings. When the process is complete, the pharmacy will have dedicated itself toward ongoing quality improvement.
